Act as a one stop centre for all activities relating to biosafety.

	Enforce the Biosafety Act and to ensure compliance
	Monitor activities relating to modern biotechnology
	Establish mechanism to facilitate the collection, storage and dissemination of data relating to biosafety
	Secretariat for NBB and Genetic Modification Advisory Committe (GMAC)
	Provide a platform for consultations on all issues relating to biosafety
	Increase public awareness on biosafety
	Coordinate activities on biosafety between federal government and the States, NGOs and the industry
	Build cooperation between relevant local agencies and external agencies and organizations
	Fulfill Malaysia’s obligations arising from biosafety related international agreements, conventions and treaties

Biosafety Core Team pledge to provide quality service and will collaborate with relevant Government Agencies for the effectiveness and efficiency of services rendered on the following:
	To process application for the approval of any release activity, or any importation of living modified organisms within 180 days;
	To process submission of notification for the exportation and contained use activities involving living modified organisms and importation of living modified organisms for purposes of undertaking a contained use activity within 90 days;
	To prepare comments on decisions of Cabinet Meetings for the approval of the Ministry’s top-level management within three (3) days;
	To prepare special reports on specific issues related to biosafety within five (5) days;
	To prepare comments to policy issues related to biosafety as requested by other Ministries and international organizations within three (3) days;
	To prepare answers to Dewan Rakyat/ Negara questions for approval within three (3) days; and
	To prepare minutes of meetings within three (3) days after a meeting.
